FAQ
Common Questions
What does BS1088 certification actually mean?
BS1088 is the British Standard widely regarded as the top benchmark for marine plywood. It requires a void-free core, WBP (Weather and Boil Proof) adhesive, and strictly controlled face veneer quality. It is the certification marine surveyors and boat building specifications ask for.
Is this plywood suitable for boat hulls?
Yes. Our marine ply is 100% Okoume hardwood, BS1088 certified, and used for hulls, decks, bulkheads, and transoms. Okoume is the classic choice for stitch-and-glue and cold-moulded construction because it is light, stable, and takes epoxy well.
Do I still need to seal or epoxy-coat marine plywood?
Yes - marine ply resists moisture, but standard practice for boats and permanent wet exposure is to seal faces, edges, and every cut or drill hole with epoxy. The BS1088 bond will not delaminate, but sealing protects the timber itself.
What thicknesses do you stock, and what do they cost?
Seven thicknesses from 4mm to 25mm in 2440 × 1220mm sheets, from $78.20 per sheet. See the price list for every thickness, or call 027 358 0315 to talk through your build.
